We Fight For Peace

Z.S. Diamanti

We fight for some peace, but peace we have not.

Through many battles we have gone and fought,

With brothers and sisters we go to die.

We fight for some peace, but peace we have not.

Have all these memories led us to naught?

We remember this in bed, where we lie,

Through many battles we have gone and fought.

Trudging hard, trying to escape our thought

For those who’ve died, we continue to cry.

We fight for some peace, but peace we have not.

Broken inside, have we done what we ought?

Freedom for others, but judgment is nigh,

Through many battles we have gone and fought.

Running and hiding, do this we cannot.

We had a duty we could not deny.

We fight for some peace, but peace we have not.

Still tremors and visions press their onslaught,

Even when we’re home, we can’t break the tie.

Through many battles we have gone and fought.

We fight for some peace, but peace we have not.
